Complex & Medical Needs - Pigs Eye Dissection
Date: 28th Jan 2025 @ 8:45am
At our Complex & Medical Needs Provision, classes A, E and T completed dissections of pig eyes as part of their lessons on the anatomy of the eye.
While most students were wary of the idea of witnessing the dissection, almost all our students stayed to watch, and some brave souls completely overcame their anxieties and handled the eyes and their component parts! We were particularly fascinated by seeing that the pupil is indeed simply a gap in the iris, at how soft and flexible the lens is, and the gap in the retina where it meets the optic nerve and which gives us all a blind spot in each eye!
The final photo is from our weekly catch up with the students to discuss this week's results for independent study. Lisa lets all the students know how they have engaged this week, and rewards are given to those who have tried their hardest. The students have been responding really well.
