Headteacher's Welcome
A warm welcome to St Helens Alternative Provision Service
Welcome to the St Helens Alternative Provision Service website. Our service is made up of two specialist Pupil Referral Units: PACE, which supports children aged 5 to 11, and Launchpad, which works with young people aged 11 to 16. Together, we provide a high-quality, personalised educational experience for learners who face barriers to accessing mainstream schooling due to social, emotional, behavioural or medical needs.
It is a privilege to lead this service as Headteacher. At St Helens Alternative Provision Service, we believe that every child is valued and that education should be a source of safety, belonging and opportunity. Our dedicated staff work tirelessly to create an inclusive and supportive environment where learners feel understood, encouraged and able to move forward with confidence.
Our vision is clear:
A safe and inclusive school where barriers are broken, confidence grows and futures are built.
This vision shapes everything we do. It is reflected in our shared values:
You are valued – every learner is treated with care, dignity and respect.
Keep moving forward – we promote resilience, effort and progress, even when learning feels challenging.
Respect everyone – positive relationships and mutual respect are at the heart of our community.
Build your future – we help young people develop the skills, confidence and aspirations they need for their next steps.
At PACE, we focus on building strong foundations for our youngest learners, helping them develop the confidence and skills they need to thrive both academically and socially. At Launchpad, we work closely with older students to re-engage them with learning, support them to overcome difficulties and prepare them for a successful return to mainstream school or another appropriate educational pathway.
We take a holistic approach to education, recognising that progress is shaped not only by academic learning but also by wellbeing, relationships and personal development. Collaboration lies at the heart of our work, and we value our partnerships with families, mainstream schools and external agencies in helping us remove barriers and unlock each learner’s potential.
We hope this website gives you a clear insight into our work, our values and the difference we strive to make for the young people we serve. If you would like further information or wish to speak to a member of our team, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Warm regards,
Michael Power
